Shikharji is the most sacred pilgrimage of the Jains. Gunayatan at the foot of Parashnath hill, in Shikarji, offers a ‘darshan’ of the tonks from the base. At Gunayatan, the intent is to initiate a model, sustainable development – not only in terms of energy, site infrastructure, material resource use, but also in establishing a post–construction minimal maintenance practice, based on Jain values.

The project is intended to demonstrate a new approach to building religious structures and will engage with the historical, philosophical and spiritual dimensions of Jainism.

The design and construction represents local building materials and craftsmanship, while incorporating appropriate building technologies (both traditional and modern).
