The interiors for this hotel at Bhubaneshwar, designed to be a Mercure, borrows from various local nuances in and around Bhubaneswar and Odisha. Influenced by the colours, patterns, materials, artwork and architecture, various elements are abstracted and translated into the design of the interior spaces, furniture and installations.
The public areas spread across three floors feature an iconic reception and entrance lobby, followed by an open floor plan, seamlessly transitioning into the F&B spaces of the hotel on the ground floor. The first floor features the grand banquet hall and several flexible meeting room spaces while the third floor hosts the Gym & pool.
The stepped feature inspired by temple plinth architecture is reimagined in the form of central display installations, hanging pendant lights and cove false ceilings.
The colour palette consisting of blues, greys and terracotta are derived from the ocean, stone architecture and pottery prevalent in the area. A strong motif is derived from the traditional ‘Pasapalli Ikkat’ weaving pattern and this grid is reimagined in flooring, artwork, upholstery and wall coverings across the spaces in subtle forms.
The rooms are a continuation of the design language, led to by a vibrant patterned grid carpet flooring, with a muted shell and soft furnishing, and a pop of vibrancy through a large wall artwork taking centre stage.
